The truth is that having an outdoor classroom for teaching is a game-changer, one that will transform your teaching practice, revitalize your school grounds, and even get children excited about learning.
The problem? Overwhelm, fear, and a lack of time can often make achieving a one-of-a-kind outdoor classroom vision into reality more trouble than it's worth.
But what if there was a way to make sure you got it right?
As an educator, my Teaching Garden story didn't start until I was a parent. While spearheading the transformation of an old desolate courtyard at my children's elementary school into a Children's Garden & Outdoor Classroom I found my entire philosophy of education transformed.
I now inspire teachers and parents to create outdoor classrooms, backyard teaching gardens, and nature-based curricula on a shoestring budget.
January 18-22, 2021
The Outdoor Teaching Bootcamp is a comprehensive training, designed to help you understand the 5-Phases of Outdoor Teaching so that you will be able to gain confidence in moving your classroom outdoors while transitioning to outdoor learning and teaching.
The Outdoor Teaching Bootcamp was originally created to help teachers achieve a "Back to School" Covid-19 plan because the outdoors offers fresh air and open space for classes to spread out. Moving classrooms outdoors has shown a decrease in behavior problems, an increase in test scores, and reduced symptoms of ADHD.
If you are a teacher, parent, or struggle with the idea of using your outdoor space as a classroom, this is an opportunity that I promise you will not want to miss.
Most teachers and parents are overwhelmed with all the logistics they need to take care of in a day. When adding Covid-19 restrictions to the mix, it's easy for anxiety to take over. We know that being outdoors is the safest place for everyone, but taking the leap and moving your classroom outdoors can be tricky if not done right.
Teaching outdoors does not have to feel like a solo project. In fact, taking this on as an entire school or family can be transformative! In this program, we invite the children into the process of creating your outdoor classroom and/or backyard teaching garden. We believe, in finding the silver lining, working together, and transforming schoolyards one garden at a time.
The first step to a successful outdoor classroom is having a clear vision. In this phase, you'll create an Infrastructure for your outdoor classroom by honing in on key outdoor elements, goals, vision, and what you want to teach outdoors.
Once you've established your vision, the next step is to Get Outdoors. We start small and read a book outside. This phase involves getting out of your comfort zone, gaining confidence with leading simple outdoor activities and working toward specific stretch goals.
After you have gained confidence with simple outdoor lessons the next step is to begin the streamline your teaching, documentation, and learning goals into your outdoor classrooms' infrastructure. This phase is all about Teaching & Learning Outdoors.
Before you get too far, it's important to think about how weather will impact your teaching and learning outdoors. This phase is about tips, tricks and activities that will help to ensure that Weather will enhance your outdoor teaching experience.
The final step to kickstarting your Outdoor Classroom is ensuring that you establish Sustainability Practices before you get started. This phase is about the things you need to do for success and how to weave sustainability education into your Outdoor Classroom.
When you purchase the Outdoor Classrooms Bootcamp, you will have instant access to all the tools you need to create your own one-of-a-kind Outdoor Classroom and nature-based curricula. Our proven process provides a step-by-step plan for how to set up and teach outdoors, so you'll never wonder what your next step should be.
